One perk to joining Salinas Valley Elite Running Club is we LOVE to explore our backyard! Monterey County is one of the most beautiful places in America. It would be a shame to stick to the same routes! Every week we enjoy running along the beaches, forests and wildlands of Monterey County. There are hundreds of miles of trails and thousands of acres of parkland. Check out our FEATURED PARKS below for a sampling of our favorite running routes.
We enjoy running along the farmlands and neighborhoods of the Salinas Valley. Tour the "Salad Bowl of the World," passing some of America's premium crops, including strawberries, leafy greens and artichokes. This agricultural jewel is also known as "Steinbeck Country," a place that inspired famous "local son," novelist John Steinbeck.
MONTEREY BAY COASTAL RECREATION TRAIL
The Rec Trail is one of Monterey County's most popular attractions. Enjoy 18 miles of paved road from Castroville to Pacific Grove. You'll pass Monterey Bay's most popular attractions and enjoy views of the rocky coastline.
TORO REGIONAL PARK
Toro Park is the crown jewel in the County park system. Located in Salinas, it includes nearly 5,000 acres of rolling, oak-studded hills. We also enjoy its lower valley, with picnic facilities and a trail loop, perfect for workouts.
FORT ORD NATIONAL MONUMENT & DUNES STATE PARK
Fort Ord has over 80 miles of trails. At each park, you'll run where the US Army used to train its soldiers for combat missions. Enjoy trails through oak forests, along seasonal pools and hilly grasslands carpeted with wildflowers. At the state park, run along the paved Coastal Recreation Trail, past towering sand dunes with views of Monterey Bay.
